Man…I have heard this for years and years.
As a matter of fact, one of my prospects in my last company said the exact following phrase to me after everyone on his staff said “we have to do this!” He said “the internet is a fad and is going to go the way of the dodo bird like the smiley face from the 70’s!” 🙂 I couldn’t stop laughing!
The crazy thing is that he was serious! I felt so bad for him because it’s only a matter of time until his competition is killing his business.
First it was the internet was a fad.
Then it was email marketing was a fad.
Then social media is a fad.
Who knows what is going to be said to be a fad next. We all heard Facebook was a fad and Twitter would be a fad and then Instagram was bought for a billion dollars with no revenue, obviously because it was going to be a fad. At what point are we willing to admit that not only is the internet not a fad but it has to be a way of life for us and our medical practices?
Think about it: do you use the internet for communication?
Do you use the internet for research?
Do you use the internet for entertainment?
Do you know anybody who does?
I mean, come on, it’s time to surrender and get our heads out of the sand and start EMBRACING this new reality. By the way, even though I’m in digital marketing, I sometimes cannot stand our over-connected world. Seriously, if I have to see another picture of a squirrel, dog, cat, ice bucket challenge etc, I think I am going to lose my mind. However, the math is simply too big to ignore.
The most successful medical practices in America and Canada have discovered that no longer can they ignore the world in which we live and work. If 80 percent of future and existing patients use the internet to research doctors and procedures, don’t you believe it is time to start spending more time, energy and money where people are actually spending their time?
If not now…When?
